A heat pump extracts renewable heat energy from the outdoor air and converts it to heat for your home — providing hot water and space heating at significantly lower running costs than oil or gas boilers. Modern air-to-water heat pumps operate effectively in Ireland’s climate and can achieve efficiencies of 300–400% (they produce 3–4 kWh of heat for every 1 kWh of electricity used).
A heat pump is most effective in a well-insulated home. BuildTech assesses your home’s insulation levels at the feasibility stage and advises on whether insulation upgrades are required alongside the heat pump installation to maximise efficiency and comfort.

BuildTech manages the full heat pump installation in-house — outdoor unit installation, hot water cylinder replacement, pipework alterations, thermostat and controls installation, and system commissioning. You deal with one contractor from survey to handover.
Every installation is carried out by SEAI registered installers and the system is commissioned and tested before handover. A full system handover is provided, including guidance on how to operate the heat pump for maximum efficiency.

BuildTech is SEAI registered for heat pump installation. We assess your home’s suitability, manage the SEAI grant application, and install the full system in-house — meaning you deal with one contractor from assessment to handover.
We do not install heat pumps in homes that are not suitable. If your home’s insulation levels are not adequate for a heat pump to operate efficiently, we will tell you — and advise on the insulation upgrades required.
BuildTech manages the full planning permission process from initial feasibility through to decision. Every stage is handled internally — there are no third-party handoffs that cause delays or miscommunication.
We confirm whether your project requires planning permission or qualifies as Exempted Development. Many single-storey rear extensions in Dublin do not need planning — we establish this clearly at the outset, saving you time and fees.
Where planning is required, we develop a pre-planning strategy aligned with the relevant local authority's development policies. Where appropriate, we engage with the planning authority informally before submission to identify potential issues early and reduce the risk of refusal.
Our in-house architectural design team prepares all required drawings — site location map, site plan, floor plans, elevations, and sections — along with any supporting reports and compliance documentation. Accurate, complete documentation reduces the risk of requests for further information from the council.
We prepare and submit the full application to the relevant local authority — Dublin City Council, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown, Fingal, or South Dublin County Council. We manage all correspondence and respond to any requests for further information within the statutory timeframes.
We monitor the application through to decision — typically 8–12 weeks from submission. On receipt of planning permission, we advise on any conditions attached and prepare the project for the next stage: cost and technical design, or construction if design is already complete.
Delays and refusals in planning applications are almost always avoidable with proper preparation. The most common causes in Dublin are:
